Buhari presents 2020 budget to National Assembly next week

President Muhammadu Buhari will present the 2020 Budget to the National Assembly next week.

The exact day is however not known yet.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, Adeola Olamilekan, made it known that the president would present the budget next week while speaking with journalists shortly after the presentation of the his committee’s report on MTEF/FSP on Thursday.

He disclosed that the committee had reduced the Federal Government’s borrowing plan from N1.7 trillion to N1.5 trillion.

Recall that the Senate had emphasised the need for quick passage of the budget to enable its early implementation for the new year.

That, the president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, had argued would ensure a predictable economic climate and engender growth.

He had earlier promised that once the budget was sent to the National Assembly, all hands would be on deck to ensure it was passed before the Christmas break.

“I am aware that the Executive arm of government is working assiduously to ensure that the appropriation bill for the year 2020 is presented to the National Assembly by the end of this month.

“The National Assembly will work so hard to ensure that the 2020 budget is passed before we go on Christmas break,” he said.
