President Muhammadu Buhari has left for Saudi Arabia on the invitation of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the ruler of Saudi Arabia and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

He would be performing Umrah during the visit.

Umrah is an optional but recommended pilgrimage to Makkah that can be made at any time of the year.

The president’s aircraft left the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja for Saudi Arabia at about 11.00 a.m.

At the airport to say farewell to the president were his Chief of Staff, Malam Abba Kyari, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) among others.

The president is expected back in the country on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said in a statement on Wednesday.
