President Muhammadu Buhari has described former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, as a man who lived a life of service.

Buhari made this remark on Sunday over the death of Anenih.

Anenih died on Sunday at the age of 85 in Abuja at a private hospital.

In his message of condolence issued by his media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari was quoted as describing Anenih as having worked for the unity of the country.

“As a frontline figure in the annals of our country’s political history, the President attests that Chief Anenih lived a life of service, as State Chairman of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), chieftain of the PDP, and a former Minister of Works.

“President Buhari affirms that across the political spectrum of Nigeria, Chief Anenih was known for his strong views on issues pertaining to the unity and stability of the nation.”

Buhari prayed for the repose of the soul of Anenih.

In the same vein, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, described Anenih as a great patriot.

According to him, he played crucial roles in the nation’s democracy.

“Chief Tony Anenih was a consummate leader statesman who played several defining roles throughout Nigeria’s democracy. He will be remembered for his great patriotism and his insight into national issues. He will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Chief,” he wrote on his social media account.
