President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, made this known on Friday.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, Malami disclosed that Mohammed Umar had been named as his replacement.

Until his appointment, Umar was the EFCC’s director of operations.

The statement reads in part: “President Muhammadu Buhari has also approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regard(s).”

The minister added that the suspension of Magu was to allow for “unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.”

Magu was suspended on Tuesday following investigation into his alleged involvement in financial malpractices connected with recovered loots in the country.
