BREAKING: UNILAG gets first female Vice-Chancellor

A professor of clinical microbiology, Folasade Ogunsola, has emerged the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG.

The 13th Vice Chancellor, she is to take over from Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe on November 11, 2022.

FrontPage reports that the governing council of the institution made the announcement of her emergence on Friday in a statement by Mrs Adejoke Alaga, Principal Assistant Registrar, Communication Unit of the university and issued to newsmen on Friday night in Lagos.

The five-year appointment will take effect from Saturday, November 12 and end on November 11, 2027.

He predecessor, Ogundipe was appointed in 2017.

According to Alaga, the appointment was made at the end of the special council meeting held in the university.

Ogunsola defeated six others to emerge.

The others include Prof. Timothy Nubi; Prof. Abayomi Akinyeyi; Mathew Ilori and Adeyinka Adekunle.

Ogunsola was born in 1958 and holds a PhD in Medical Microbiology, an MSc in Medical Microbiology with Distinction, and a Diploma in Biomedical Techniques, from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, among others.
