Attempt to arrest Sunday Igboho

There was a rowdy session on Friday as security operatives were alleged to have attempted to arrest the popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The incident was said to have happened on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Friday afternoon.

In a video gone viral and said to be of the incident, Igboho is seen naked to the waist, in a rowdy session with policemen and some of his supporters.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, confirmed the incident on his Twitter handle.

He explained that Igboho was on his way to see the leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, when he (Igboho) was harassed by the police.

Fani-Kayode condemned the action of the police warning that it was reckless and dangerous.

His tweets read: “I just spoke to my brother Sunday Igboho. He told me there was a violent attempt to arrest him this afternoon by a joint team of soldiers, DSS operatives & policemen numbering about 40 on the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway whilst he was on his way to see Baba Ayo Adebanjo in Lagos.

“I condemn this attempt to ambush & abduct him. It is not only reckless but also very dangerous. If the security agencies want to see him all they need to do is to invite him to their office. I am not aware of any crime that he has committed & I urge restraint on all sides.

“Let me also send a warning to the FG that Sunday Igboho is a hero to millions of Yorubas & either killing him or detaining him unlawfully would be the biggest mistake they could make. Building bridges, dialogue & peace is better than violence & war. A word is enough for the wise.”
