The immediate past Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Maikanti Kachalla Baru, is dead.
Baru died Friday night at the age of 60.
His successor, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mele Kyari, announced his death Saturday morning on his Twitter handle.
He described him as his mentor.
The tweet reads: “My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night. He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him.”
Born July 1959 at Misau, Bauchi State, Baru an engineer was the 18th GMD of NNPC.
He served in the position from July 2016 to July 2019 and had previously served as the Group General Manager (GGM) of National Petroleum Investment Management Services.
He was a fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
