BREAKING: Edo guber: INEC declares Godwin Obaseki winner

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate has emerged the clear winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.

He defeated his strongest opponent, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The election was tension soaked.

Obaseki’s victory was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, after the collation of results from the 18 local government areas of the state.

The final result was announced by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh.

While Obaseki polled 307,955 votes, Ize-Iyamu, polled 223,619 votes.

A total of 550,242 votes were cast.

Valid votes were 537,407, while rejected votes were 12,835.
