Nigeria’s Super Eagles have won the third place match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON, going on in Egypt.
They defeated the Tunisian team by 1 – 0.
The goal was scored by Odion Ighalo in the third minute of the match.
The two teams lost their semi final matches on Saturday.
While Algeria defeated Nigeria by 2 – 1, Senegal defeated Tunisia, 1 – 0.
To qualify for the semi-final, the Super Eagles defeated Bafana Bafana of South Africa, by 2 – 1
During the semi-final match, the Federal Government sent a delegation led by the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan to cheer the Super Eagles.
Lawan said the delegation was to boost the morale of the players.
His words: “I am confident that our boys will today reenact their winning streak in their determination to win the trophy, and they need all of our support including our physical presence.”
In the delegation among others were the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha; Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
