Ensure the release of Miss Leah Sharibu, Grace Taku and other people held hostage by the terrorists group, Boko Haram, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Dr Samson Ayokunle, has charged President Muhammadu Buhari.
The primary duty of any serious government, according to him, was the security of lives and property of the governed.
In a statement by his media aide, Pastor Bayo Oladeji, the CAN president warned that any government that could not guarantee that primary responsibility might lose the confidence of the citizens.
The reaction of the president of CAN was as a result of the video released by Boko Haram showing Grace Taku, an aide worker of Action for Hunger, appealing to the government, CAN and other well-meaning Nigerians to secure her release and those of others in the den of the terrorists.
The president of CAN said it was necessary for the government to secure the release of the captives before it was late.
Ayokunle said it believed that Leah Sharibu was still alive, hence her release as well as those of others should be effected.
He urged that the government should no longer pay lip-service to addressing the problem of insecurity.
He emphasised that the state of insecurity in the country had got out of hand and that there was an urgent need to do something about it.
“We call on well-meaning people and agencies to join CAN in pleading with our government and the security agencies to wake up from their slumber before it will be too late. Our prayer is that the awesome God will come to the aid of this country. He will free all the captives and comfort all the bereaved of the killings in the country,” the president of CAN was quoted as saying.
