The remains of the Head, Corporate Affairs, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, Elder Adekunle Tayo, have been buried.

He died on Saturday August 28, 2021, after a brief illness.

He was 54 years old.

Tayo who was buried at his Eleyele residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, was survived by his wife and three children – Emmanuel, Olufunke and Timileyin.

Born on October 28, 1967 in Ibadan, Adekunle Tayo had his elementary school education at Ibadan Municipal Government Primary School, Moor Plantation, Apata, Ibadan.

Burial event

He attended Apata Community Grammar School and later, Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta) for both his ND and HND programmes in Mass Communication.

As a youth corps member, he served under the then Governor of Abia State, Ogbonaya Onu, from where he proceeded to the premier university, University of Ibadan for his Master’s degree in Communication and Language Arts.

He started work as a reporter at the defunct Sketch newspaper, Ibadan, where he was nicknamed Kekere by the Managing Director, Chief Olusegun Osoba.

From there he moved to the Nigerian Tribune, Ibadan.

He entered the banking world as he later joined Gateway Bank which later metamorphosed to Intercontinental Bank.

He worked directly with the CEO, Erastus Akingbola.

He came back to the Nigerian Tribune as Group Business Editor before joining BEDC as Head Corporate Affairs.

He was a strong member of Christ Apostolic Church and a great community leader.
