The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University of Education, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, has urged student-teachers to be proud of their profession.

The Vice-Chancellor made the call in her address at the launching of Project SEED, a teacher training fellowship with its National College of Education, NCE, students at the institution on Monday.

The SEED Project is a programme of the Office of Special Adviser on Education, OSAE, in conjunction with 1 Million Teachers and Lagos State University of Education.

Lafiaji-Okuneye implored the students to be proud of their teaching profession because is one like any other good profession could think of.

The Vice Chancellor of the first University of Education in Lagos State and second in the nation further assured the NCE students of admission into the university through direct entry.

The Chief Executive Officer, One Million Teachers, Mrs. Oniyitan Olanrewaju, in her address noted that the purpose for the programme was to sensitize the students on the idea of branding.

According to Oniyitan, over 70 million teachers were needed globally and the university churned out thousands of graduate teachers yearly.

According to her, “If you must be picked for employment as a teacher, you must have something that stands you out as the best.”

She then implored the students to have faith in the One Million Teachers SEED programme because it had been scrutinized.

The SEED Teachers in Training Fellowship is a transformational and breakthrough model in revolutionising the teaching profession while creating a movement of Teachers in Training leaders with the appropriate skills and motivation to eliminate education poverty in equity.

The climax of the event was a surprise presentation to the LASUED Vice Chancellor, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, by the executives of the Students Union to commemorate her birthday and one year of the existence of the university.
