Aye and Eiye: Police arrest four cult members during supremacy battle

Four members of dreaded cult groups were on Saturday arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command during a supremacy battle between Aye and Eiye confraternity in Atan Ota area of Ogun State.

The suspects are 26 years old Olusegun Owoola, 34 years old Gbenga Akinkade, 30 years old Jinadu Waliu 30 and 27 years old Sanni Hammed.

They were arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Atan Ota Division, CSP Abolade Oladigbolu at about 4 a.m. on Saturday.

The battle took place at Hotel Road, Atan Ota, where there was said to be shooting.

Upon the distress call, the DPO mobilised his men and moved to the scene where they met the two groups engaging themselves in serious gun battle.

The policemen there and then engaged the cult members and subsequently subdued them.

At the end of it all, four amongst the cultists were apprehended.

Recovered from them were, one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, two knives, iron rod and assorted criminal charms.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, was said to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to anti-cultism section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation.

He was quoted as having warned that the command would not tolerate any act of brigandage and hooliganism, and would do everything within the law to eradicate it.
