Awori Day 2019: City of Houston, US, honours Olota of Ota, Obalanlege

The Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege, has been honoured with a commendation by the City of Houston in recognition of his leadership style.

Described as a visionary leader of Awori land, he was praised for his participation in various community development projects.

The letter of commendation dated October 26 is signed by the Mayor of the City of Houston, Sylvester Turner, and reads:

The City of Houston commends and appreciates HRM Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege, Awori Visionary Leader, in recognition of your participation in various community development initiatives and involvement with the Awori empowerment organisation, CANDID.

Your impressive credentials, expertise and pedigree have enabled you to achieve outstanding charitable work on an international scale. 

Therefore, I Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the City of Houston, commend HRM Adeyemi Abdulkabir for his commitment of unity and fostering economic development to support communities throughout Nigeria. 

It would be recalled that Awori Day 2019 was held in the United States of America on Saturday.

The event, organised by the Coalition of Aworis And Descendants in Diaspora, CANDID, was designed to further promote the cultural heritage of the Awori.

The celebration witnessed the coming together of many indigenes of the kingdom.

The Awori are found in Ogun and Lagos State, South West of Nigeria.

Obalanlege, his wife, Olori Olohuntoyin Obalanlege, and other monarchs and chiefs from Awori Kingdom were present at the occasion.

The event took place at Dream Place Banquet Hall 11225, Bissonnet Street, Houston, Texas.
