Attack on ‘vigilante’: Two notorious cult members arrested in Ijebu Igbo
The suspects

Two members of a notorious cult group, Aiye Confraternity, were on Sunday arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command, over their involvement in the attack of a vigilance man.

The suspects, 26 years old Balogun Opemipo, and  27 years old Korede Onabanjo, were arrested following a report lodged at Ijebu-Igbo divisional headquarters by one Salami Azeez.

Azeez reported that he was contracted as a vigilance man at Aleke area of Ijebu-Igbo, and that while he was on duty at about 1:30 a.m., he saw three boys moving around the area.

He said he challenged them about their mission in the area at that ungodly hour, but they attacked him with iron rod and inflicted serious injury on his head.

On the strength of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ijebu-Igbo division, SP Kazeem Solotan mobilised his patrol team and moved to the scene where two amongst the suspects Opemipo and Onabanjo were arrested.

The third suspect was reported to have escaped.

Upon their arrest, the policemen discovered them to be among those on their wanted list for their involvement in various cult related clashes in Ijebu-Igbo and its environs.

On interrogation, the two suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded Aiye cult group terrorising the area for quite some time.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and subsequent prosecutions.
