The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is to hold its quarterly National Executive Council, NEC, meeting today.

Top on the agenda among others is the need for government to pay the salaries of its members for the eight months period of strike.

The event is scheduled to hold at the University of Calabar, Calabar, Cross River State, a member of the NEC revealed in Abuja on Saturday.

Said the NEC member: “There is a quarterly NEC and it’s for the fourth quarter.

“Lots of issues will come up, and definitely, the issue of withheld and amputated salaries will come up.”

It would be recalled that there is a nationwide protest by ASUU members in all federal universities over the failure of the federal government to pay their eight months salary and the “half salary” paid in October.

The government had justified the non-payment, arguing that the lecturers could not be paid for the period they did not work.

Most universities across the country were shut down for eight months when the lecturers embarked on strike from February 14, 2022.
