President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the military authorities and other security agencies to apprehend those responsible for beheading two soldiers, and bring them to justice.
The two soldiers beheaded by member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, are Master Warrant Officer Audu Linus and his partner, Private Gloria Mathew.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari was said to have expressed deep shock over the incident.
He said the perpetrators of the barbaric acts must be brought to justice.
Shehu said the president joined fellow citizens in expressing deep sense of shock and condemned the barbarism of the perpetrators of the unfortunate incident, and similar acts of violence against law enforcement agents, describing it as alien to all cultures and civilizations.
He added that the president called on all leaders – community, regional and national – to “speak with one voice, to show that the entire country is one against this cruel and barbaric act of violence. This is unacceptable.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of this sad and tragic incident,” the president was quoted to have said.
