The Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu has urged corps members to join forces with the anti graft agency in the crusade against corruption in the country.
Magu said Nigerian youths, specifically the graduates, held the key to fight corruption to a standstill and should see themselves as great instrument or asset to demystify the scourge in the society.
He stated this during an interactive session with the 2019 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.
The chairman, who was represented by Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed regretted that it was unfortunate that few privileged individuals controlled the huge resources the country was blessed with while the majority daily struggled with financial challenges.
Magu announced that in spite of the dangerous and very difficult terrain the Commission operated, it had recorded some breakthrough as several millions of looted funds had been recovered and over one thousand convictions secured through competent law courts.
He admonished members of the service corps to report any act of crimes wherever they found themselves.
He said they should stop lamenting about the hopeless situation greedy Nigerians have plunged the nation into but should be the desirable agents of change.
He berated the youths going into criminal activities to make money and live flamboyantly.
He advised them to embrace hard work which ultimately would make them responsible and respectable citizens of the country.
“My dear corps members, I want to sincerely advise you to reject and shun financial crimes in whatever forms and be role models to make this country a better place to live for all of us not minding the economic hardship staring us in the face”.
He noted that corruption was one of the greatest challenges of Nigeria which had greatly affected virtually all the sectors of the economy.
He called on the corps members to rise up and offer their helping hands to wipe out corruption in its entirety in Nigeria.
