The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, has ordered a probe into the cause of the death of a lecturer in the institution, Dr. Victoria Oluwaremilekun Adeniyi.
Adeniyi died on Sunday when she reportedly slumped.
During his visit to the University Teaching Hospital, Ogunbodede ordered for a post mortem.
He said the necessary papers should be filled to that effect.
Adeniyi’s death came less than 48 hours after the death of another lecturer in the school, Professor of Paediatrics, Professor Jerome Elusiyan, who was attacked by gunmen.
Announcing Adeniyi’s demise, OAU Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, described her as the Acting Head, Department of Dramatic Arts of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, until her death.
She was said to have directed this year’s convocation play which was staged four days ago.
Also, she was a part of the academic procession of the grand finale of the university’s 44th convocation.
“It is too painful for us as a University to tearfully break the unpalatable news of the demise of another promising academic and a prominent member of OAU community, Dr. Victoria Oluwaremilekun ADENIYI, who, until her death early this morning was the Acting Head, Department of Dramatic Arts of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife,” the statement by Olarewaju reads in part.
