Ammunitions hidden in garri bag at motor park, Police arrest suspect

A woman has been arrested by the police over some ammunitions hidden in a bag of garri at a motor park at Maza Maza area of Lagos State.

The bag was meant for onward transmission to Onitsha.

The police, acting on a tip off were said to have stormed the motor park and discovered that the bag contained ammunitions.

Public Relations Officer of the Lagos Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, stated that the woman had been arrested and had been helping with useful information.

The statement by the police spokesman reads: “On 24/07/2019, at about 11.15 a.m., Satellite Police Station received information from a credible source that a bag containing a suspicious item was smuggled into a motor park for onward transfer to Onitsha, Anambra State, by unknown persons.

“Based on the information, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Chike Oti, deployed his surveillance team to the motor park at Maza Maza to recover the bag.

“Upon searching the bag, 50 rounds of .38mm live ammunition hidden inside a garri dust was recovered.

“A female who claimed that the bag was given to her by a man in Ojo area to deliver to someone at Onitsha was arrested and she is helping the Police with useful information.

“The case has been transferred to SARS for further investigation.

“Investigation is ongoing.”
