No fewer than 12 accounts were operated by former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulreasheed Maina, at the United Bank for Africa, UBA.
This revelation was made by the prosecution witness, Maira Muhammed Bashir, at the opening of the trial of Maina at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday.
The court was presided over by Justice Okon Abang.
Bashir who was led in evidence, M. S. Abubakar, said she was the one overseeing the affairs of the business section of the bank.
According to her, in 2011, she sought for fund from Maina who was at the time the chairman of the pension task force in order to grow the bank’s deposit.
The effort, she said, brought about a deposit of N3 billion from Maina.
The money, according to her, was later transferred to the Treasury Single Account, TSA with CBN around 2012.
Bashir said she further approached Maina for more deposit which led to the opening of 12 accounts.
The accounts, she explained, were for Maina and members of his immediate family.
He said two accounts meant for Maina were for Naira and United State Dollars respectively.
She said two of the accounts were for Maina’s wife and some of his daughters – Fauzial Abdlrasheed Maina, Fareeda Abdlrasheed Maina and Fadeela Abdlrasheed Maina.
Some of the accounts were also for his companies which include Faizal Farm (i), Faizal Farm (ii) and Common Input Investment Property Ltd.
They were also for Naira and Dollar denominations.
Maina, she disclosed, was the signatory to the company accounts.
The documents to the effect of her statements were tendered and admitted in evidence.
Maina is being tried by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering, fraud and operating fictitious bank accounts.
