The Lagos State House of Assembly has cleared its Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, of involvement in alleged corrupt practices and abuse of office.

The submission was made on Monday by the probe panel set up to probe the numerous allegations of corrupt practices against him by an online newspaper, Sahara Reporters.

According to the chairman of the panel, Victor Akande, who represents Ojo constituency I, the allegations against Obasa were “frivolous”.

“The Speaker did not have multiple accounts with Ecobank, the BVN ascribed to Wema Bank does not belong to him and the companies attributed to him in Wema Bank is not correct,” the panel said.

In its report to the House, the committee which said Obasa followed due process in his transactions, recommended that the “activities of the House should be digitalised for proper record keeping and monitoring.”

It also suggested that “a vote of confidence should be passed on the Speaker of the House.”

Obasa appeared before the probe panel on Saturday describing the allegations against him as coming from his enemies.

He said the allegations were indeed unfounded.

He stressed that the vehicles bought for the members of the House and other expenses made by the House were done with the approval of the House and that of the Fund Management Committee (FMU) of the House headed by him.

Obasa also debunked an allegation that N258 million cost N61 million while N1.1 million was spent to print the invitation cards.was spent for the printing of invitation cards for the inauguration of the 9th Assembly adding that the whole event
