Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State was duly elected during the March 9, 2019 general election, the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo, has declared.
The verdict was given by the three man panel that looked into the case filed against Emmanuel by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its governorship candidate in the election, Mr. Nsima Ekete.
Udom Emmanuel is of the Peoples Democratic Party.
APC and its candidate claimed that his election was characterized by irregularities and hence did not merit being the governor.
But delivering its judgement, Justice A.M Yakuba, who heads the tribunal declared that the claims by the APC and its candidate did not have merit.
He stated that the petitioners did not produce witnesses to buttress its claim in eight out of the 21 local government areas where they were said to have won.
It therefore dismissed the claims on the ground that they lacked merit.
