The governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has restated the commitment of his administration to the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the state.

Akeredolu made the remark on Thursday when the new Ondo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani was formally presented to the government.

Akeredolu said that NYSC remained a household name whose activities had gone beyond unifying the country but playing pivotal roles in national development.

This is as he said that youths should be encouraged to take up leadership and responsibility roles in governance.

“I think the National Youth Service Corps is living up to expectations in these areas as more purposeful driven and focused Nigerian graduates are cutting their teeth in various leadership positions.

“The experience the corps members have during orientation courses is a launching pad that is propelling them to greatness as the contents of the three weeks induction training are geared towards making them better leadership materials,” he said.

The governor who met his wife during the NYSC programme of 1978/79 service year confirmed that the scheme had made him a foremost Nigerian.

He tasked NYSC managers to encourage localisation of contents which would “invariably make us the toast of several nations.”

He also advised the new coordinator to liaise with the Office of the First Lady for collaboration on her (Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu) Girl-Child programme.

Speaking earlier, the new co-ordinator congratulated the governor over his swearing in for his second term, and prayed that the state would continue to enjoy the peace it is known for.

She praised the governor for the programmes he initiated for youth development, saying that they attested to his love for Nigerian youths.

Ani promised that NYSC in Ondo State under her watch would not relent in amplifying government’s programmes and activities meant to empower youths.

The outgoing state coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio who accompanied Ani, said that she would continue to remember the support she enjoyed while in the state.
