The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has refuted the claim that the Unified Access Service, UASL, Licence of Airtel Nigeria is yet to be renewed.

The commission made the refutal against the background of the report that the Managing Director/Chief Executive Office of Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Olusegun Ogunsanya, declared that the licence had been renewed for another ten years.

NCC said while it was true that the company had applied for the renewal of the licence, the application had not been granted yet.

According to the commission, the application was still undergoing the necessary regulatory process.

“The Commission wishes to state that while Airtel Nigeria has applied for the renewal of the Unified Access Service (UASL) Licence granted to it by the Commission, the application is yet to be approved as it is still undergoing required regulatory process,” the statement by the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, reads in part.

“This statement is issued for the guidance of our stakeholders,” Adinde added.
