The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of Adamawa State governorship election.
Fintiri defeated his closest opponent, Governor Muhammadu Bindow of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the election which was held on Thursday.
The supplementary election was held in 44 units across 14 local government areas of Adamawa State.
According to the Returning Officer of the election, Prof. Andrew Haruna, who declared the result on Thursday, while Fintiri recorded 376,552 votes, Bindow recorded 336,386 votes.
Senator Abdul-Azeez Nyako of African Democratic Congress, ADC, polled 113,237 votes, while Chief Emmanuel Bello of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, polled 29,792 votes.
Born on October 27, 1967, in Madagali local government area of Adamawa, Fintiri read History at the University of Maiduguri.
He was the Speaker of Adamawa House of Assembly in 2014 and also served as Acting Governor in July 2014 after the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako.
