The Director, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Southwest Area Office, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akin-Moses, has declared that achievements attained are determined by the level of discipline individuals display in the face of life’s challenges.

The director made the declaration on Wednesday when she addressed the 2021 Batch ‘B’ (Stream II) corps members currently undergoing three weeks orientation course at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

Akin-Moses implored the corps members to rededicate their lives and struggles to perseverance, patience and be focused.

“Life will throw many challenges at you but if you persevere and detest get-rich-quick syndrome and condition your mind that Rome was not built in a day, you will definitely reach your goals in life..

“If you apply the principle of discipline in every facets of life, you will be surprised at the speed at which success will come your way. I am not saying the roads leading to greatness are laced with gold and silver but your discipline level will surely make the difference.

“As corps members, you don’t have to toe the path of those whose source of income or wealth is questionable just because the society is giving them undeserved recognition but you should endeavour to follow honourable path and allow the lessons learnt during the orientation course to shape your lives.”

The NYSC administrator informed the corps members that NYSC was established forty eight years ago, among other things to instill discipline in the participants and basically to promote the unity and integration of Nigeria.

She encouraged the members of the service corps to associate and network with their colleagues they met during the service year in order to create and establish sustained relationships.

Akin-Moses advised the corps members to go into the service year and add value to their lives.

The NYSC top management staff charged the corps members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the Scheme.

She advised the corps participants to take their personal security seriously and not be like ostrich who buries his head in the sand and oblivious of what is happening around him.

The director advised the corps members to always observe the non-pharmaceutical protocols of COVID -19 and arm themselves with relevant information and awareness on the best way to curtail the spread of the dreaded virus.

The state coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, conducted the visitor round the camp on inspection of camp facilities.

Ani, while giving the brief on camp activities appreciated the unflinching support of camp officials which she attributed to commitment and sacrifice to ensure smooth operations and policy implementation.
