Abule Egba pipeline fire put out, Lagos govt announces

Lagos State government has announced that the pipeline fire that occurred in Abule Egba area of Lagos State on Sunday has been put out.

“After several hours of intense fire-fighting by the combined teams of Lagos Fire and other agencies, the fire at Ile Epo Ekoro Road, Abule-Egba Inwards Baruwa in Alimosho LGA was successfully put out.

“By 9 p.m. the fire was curtailed and by 11:30pm it was put off. Having contained the area at 11:30pm, an enumeration of the vehicles and properties that were involved this morning commenced,” the government said.

The fire that followed the explosion of pipeline belong to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, started at about 7.00 p.m. on Sunday and led to loss of lives.

Several vehicles were also burnt.

Speaking on the situation Sunday night, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, appealed to the people of Lagos to remain calm over the fire incident at Abule Egba, assuring that the situation was being put under control.

Speaking in an interview with TVC Sunday night, the Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Oluwafemi Okeosanyintolu, said all efforts were being made to put out the fire.

According to him, all agencies necessary to contain the fire were already on ground and doing their best.

The Abule Egba fire, he explained, had already been contained and localized.

He confirmed that several vehicles had already been burnt in the fire incident.

He said upon conclusion of the ongoing exercise, a thorough probe would be carried out on the cause of the incident.

He added that measures would also be put in place to prevent a reoccurrence.
