NGE: Egbemode re-elected president, pledges not to betray trust

The Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of New Telegraph Newspapers, Funke Egbemode, has been re-elected President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE.

She has been re-elected for a second term unopposed at the 2019 Biennial Convention of the NGE held on Saturday in Ikeja, Lagos.

The election was presided over by veteran journalist, Mr. Ray Ekpu.

Editors across the country gathered for the convention which has as its theme, “Media Convergence as Strategy for Survival.”

Also returned unopposed were Umaru Tudunwada, Deputy President; Mustapha Isa, Vice-President, West; and Mary Atolagbe as the General Secretary.

While Ken Ugbechie was elected Social/Publicity Secretary, Victoria Ibanga emerged the Treasurer.

Austeen Elewodalu was returned unopposed as Assistant General Secretary.

Hajia Sani emerged Vice-President (North) and Samuel Egbala emerged Vice-President (East).

Gabriel Akinadewo, Steve Nwosu and Eze Anaba emerged as Standing Committee members for the West.

Ngwoke Ngwoke and Freston Akpor emerged Standing Committee members for the East, while Catherine Agbo and Husseina Ibrahim emerged Standing Committee members for the North.

In her speech at the occasion, Egbemode pledged not to Her words: “Everybody agreed that I, Funke Egbemode should serve a second term.

“While accepting to serve, I want to thank you for your trust.

“I will never forget or betray this trust.

“Although I have ideas, I promise that the next two years will be about what you want and what needs to be done and the integrity of the Guild will be protected.”
