Damaturu: Troops ambush terrorists, neutralise several

The Nigerian Army troops have ambushed members of the terrorists group, Boko Haram, neutralising many of them in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The ambush, it was said, followed intelligence that the terrorists were coming to attack Damaturu.

The ambush, according to the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, Lieutenant Njoka Irabor, was carried out at about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

The troops were said to have effectively ambushed the criminals few metres ahead of Maisandari community at the outskirts of the city of Damaturu.

The terrorists were said to be overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the troops and the well coordinated air support, from the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole.

Consequently, many terrorists, the troops said, met their waterloo.

Some were said to be wounded and the following items and equipments were recovered:

  1. 2 x Gun Trucks
  2. 2 x Anti Aircraft Guns
  3. 1 x 60 Millimetre Mortar
  4. 4 x AK 47 Rifles
  5. 1x General Purpose Machine Gun
  6. 1,245 Rounds of 7.62 mm (NATO)

Troops were said to have embarked on hot pursuit of the fleeing terrorists while mop up and combing of the general area was ongoing.
