The Ondo State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, has asserted that one of the greatest sins against humanity is to fail the unborn generation.

To avert the sin which she described as unpardonable, she appealed to 2022 Batch ‘A’ (Stream II) corps members during its cultural carnival not to allow their cultural heritage go into extinction.

“Gentlemen corps members, in as much as we feel extremely uncomfortable with inadequate ancestral historical records our forebears bequeathed to us, we should not embark on a journey to oblivion of what we should value as a race.

“Every race has a cultural identity and we shall do well as a race to promote what our progenitors handed over to us and I want to let you know that the National Youth Service Corps has always been at the forefront of promoting diverse cultures of the Nigerian people,” she said.

She added that youths should not allow civilisation or modernisation to becloud them from showcasing their cultures to the global space, stressing that they had conducive environment and access to formidable platform such as the NYSC to tell the world their story.

“It is pertinent to say here that it is acceptable to cross-fertilise idea and learn about various cultures as no nation is an island on her own but I want to enjoin you not to relegate yours at the expense of foreign ones,” she stressed.

The NYSC boss said that if the youths did not fail to promote and showcase their cultural heritage as well as not relenting at encouraging people to research into its content value, the coming generation would continue to hand over the baton to others appropriately.

Gaily dressed camp officials with the state coordinator as the team leader led the colourful procession where the dancing steps were electrifying and the musical interlude produced rhythms that will echo in the ears for a very long time to come.

During the keenly contested inter-platoon cultural competition where diverse cultures from various ethnic groups of the country came on display, number 5 platoon that displayed Hausa culture came top with 80 points.

Coming closely to win the second position was number 6 platoon which showcased Yoruba culture with 79 points while the third position with 75 points went to number 4 platoon whic entertained the camp community with Urhobo culture.
