There is a compelling need to urgently address the lapses that greeted the Presidential and National Assembly election in order to forestall a repeat in coming ones.
This is the position of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
Rising from the first quarterly meeting of its standing committee on March 1 in Lagos, NGE said there were some shortcomings in the last election.
According to it, correcting the lapses would strengthen the process for better elections in the future.
It described as condemnable, the violence that characterised the February 23 election.
In a communiqué signed by its President, Mrs Funke Egbemode, and Secretary, Mrs Victoria Ibanga, the Guild called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other stakeholders to be circumspect in their activities and avoid actions that could lead to chaos.
It also advised any party that might feel aggrieved as a result of perceived injustice to seek redress through proper channels.
