Anyone involved in ballot box snatching or causing problem during the rescheduled general election will be ruthlessly dealt with, President Muhammadu Buhari has warned.

He said already, security agencies had been ordered to deal with such persons severely.

The president issued the warning while speaking during the All Progressives Congress, APC, emergency national caucus meeting on Monday in Abuja at the party’s national secretariat.

“Anybody who decides to snatch ballot boxes or be a thug will be dealt with ruthlessly,” the president said.

The meeting was held at the instance of the leadership of the party to discuss issues concerning the rescheduled general election.

Chaired by President Buhari, the caucus has as members, the vice president, former governors and serving governors of the party.

Also included are members of the National Working Committee among others.

Barely some hours to the general election scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 16, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, postponed it.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of INEC, Professor Moshood Yakubu, shortly after an emergency meeting it held on the eve of the election.

He blamed the problem of logistics for the action.

With the postponement, the Presidential and National Assembly election will now hold on February 23, 2019 while the Governorship and Houses of Assembly election will hold on March 9 as against March 2, 2019.
