President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa as the new Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Presidency in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
Adetifa was also appointed as a member of the health sector reform committee set up by the president.
Adetifa was appointed to replace Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu who was appointed as Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organisation, WHO, in charge of health emergency intelligence.
The statement announcing his appoint reads in part: “President Buhari has also approved the appointment of Dr Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa as the new Director General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). The President has named him as a member of this important committee.”
Adetifa is a paediatrician and infectious diseases epidemiologist.
He got his first degree from the University of Ilorin in Kwara State.
He had his residency training in Paediatrics at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos.
He studied for the MSc in Epidemiology at the school and got his PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
