The Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun, has assured that the Legislative arm of government will do everything within its powers to support the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the state.
Eleyelogun gave the assurance on Thursday when he hosted Ondo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, in his office.
The Speaker said NYSC scheme had been doing a great service to mould and reform the youths of the country since it was established 48 years ago.
“NYSC has been contributing in no small measures to the moulding and mentoring our youths as well as enhancing the economic development of this country through the deployment and subsequent posting of patriotic Nigerians to various sectors of the economy”.
“It is on record that NYSC as a responsible youth scheme has been a great mobiliser for the unity and integration of our dear nation, Nigeria, and the effects have been felt through inter tribal marriages and the establishment of long lasting relationship which transcends the service year.
“Despite our differences and backgrounds, NYSC has been able to play pivotal roles through exchange programmes and ideas that made Nigerians to appreciate our diversities and improve more on our strength as one indivisible entity.”
Eleyelogun hinted that the House Committee responsible for youth development would visit the NYSC camp for on the spot assessment of requests put forward by the state coordinator.
“It is imperative that I advise you to equally table all your requests before the Executive Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi OdunayoAkeredolu (SAN) whenever the opportunity presents itself because he has the capacity as the First citizen of the Sunshine State to direct relevant government agencies to act appropriately.
“As for the leadership of this honourable house, be rest assured that we shall do whatever is legally within our area of jurisdiction to partner with and support the Scheme,” he concluded.
Earlier, Ani reminded the leadership of the house that NYSC had been availing the services of corps members in all areas of human endeavours to develop the state.
The state coordinator, while appreciating the Speaker for the reception accorded her and her team, appealed for more synergy and collaboration with the legislative arm of government.
Ani called on the Speaker and the leadership of the house to attract public spirited citizens and philanthropists in the state to help with the infrastructural development at the camp.
“NYSC have lots of projects going on at the camp and we have been undertaking constructions at great sacrifices and cost, and from the little realised from Public Private Partnership (PPP),” she said.
She praised the membership of the House of Assembly for the quality legislation which is impacting positively on the citizens and residents of the state.
