President Muhammadu Buhari has identified sponsors of terrorism as wealthy individuals and those who are no longer in government, but seeking relevance.
The president made this known on Friday during an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA.
The president who vowed to deal severely with anyone caught involved in financing terrorism in the country said his goal was to leave Nigeria a peaceful nation.
His words: “I’ll like to hand over a secure, confident, prosperous Nigeria.”
He berated those saying he is not tough on bandits.
According to him, such a belief or statement was unfair.
The president also said there was the need for Nigerian youths to cooperate with the government in order to improve the security situation in the country.
“It’s in your interest to ensure Nigeria is secure,” he said.
While speaking on the performance of his administration in general, the president said it had not done badly.
According to him going by the resources available to his government since assumption of office in 2015, his administration had done well.
Alluding to the security situation in the North East and South South, he said the narrative had been changed from what it used to be when his administration took over the rein of government.
Said he: “I want Nigerians to be fair to this administration. They should reflect seriously on the time we came in, especially in the North-East and South-South.
“Where are we now in terms of resources? How much are we producing? The previous administration before we came was producing 2.1 million per day at 100 American dollars per barrel.
“When we came in, militants in the South-South were unleashed on this administration and production went down to half a million barrels per day, and then in the market, oil price collapsed.
“I will like Nigerians to reflect on these in terms of resources and time, and I believe that we have not done very badly.”
