Ogun State Police Command has advised welders in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to avoid using oxygen gas simultaneously with liquified petroleum gas-LPG (cooking gas), while carrying out their welding jobs.

The advice was said to be a sure way of preventing gas explosions as experienced in the past few days in Abeokuta.

The advice was given on Sunday in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.

The precaution, the police said, was necessary pending the outcome of an investigation being carried out on the cause or causes of explosions in Abeokuta.

Meanwhile, the command said already it had, in conjunction with other security and government agencies, constituted a technical investigative team to unravel the cause or causes of the recent explosions in Abeokuta metropolis, killing six and injuring eight other persons.

It said two gas plants suspected to have supplied the gas and the cylinders that caused the explosions had been closed by the police while samples of the gas from the plants had also been taken for analysis by the Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON.
