Stay away from our community as we cannot guarantee your safety, residents of Ifesowapo in Agbado Oke Odo Local Council Development Area, LCDA, have warned staff of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company, IEDC.

The warning was issued following the crazy billing carried out in the area by the electricity distribution company.

In a letter to the company’s Undertaking Office at Ponle, along Egbeda Ikotun Road, the people of the area described the billing as outrageous and called for a disconnection of the power supplied.

They said that failure of the company to disconnect the light would lead to each resident of the area dropping the electricity cable connected to his or her house.

The letter containing the warning was signed by the Joint Community Development Association chairman, Mr Wasiu Bello, and the Secretary, Razak Shekoni.

The letter reads in part: “It is quite unfortunate that we have been at the receiving end of this dubious billing.

“We do not intend to continue the use of your services. It has been agreed that you should disconnect your supply forthwith. If we do not see the necessary action, all residents will drop their lines and will not be expecting any corresponding bill.

“We also need to emphasize that none of your staff should parade themselves in our communities both for official and non-official assignment as we cannot guarantee their safety.”

The community pointed out that in the month of November, the average number of units said to have been consumed by each house was 602 units with the cost of N24,000.

The joint CDA, in the letter, said officials of the committee had lodged complaints on several occasions to the Aboru office of IEDC over the crazy billing but the company refused to yield.

Some of the community leaders were also said to have met with some officials of the electricity distribution company at Aboru over the November bill.

However, the officials of IEDC were said to have told the community leaders that the matter was beyond what they could handle.

The officials were said to have also told the members of the community to obtain prepaid metres to avoid the crazy billing.

In a similar letter, Olorunsogo Ifelodun Community Development Association, CDA, has described IECD’s estimated billing as wicked.

“Without proper energy audit, we find it strange and disturbing for any sincere service rendering company to assume consumption in a community to be over 600kw per residence.

“The billing for the month of November is not acceptable and very contestable. We are, by this notice, insisting on discontinuing the use of your services in our community,” the community said.
