President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate reopening of four land borders.

They are Seme, Illela, Maigatari and Mfun.

It would be recalled that the federal government shut Nigerian borders in August 2019.

One of the major reasons for the closure, it was explained, was to prevent smuggling.

The tweet announcing the order reads: “President @MBuhari has directed the immediate opening of four land borders: Seme, Illela, Maigatari, and Mfun.”

The president gave a hint of the latest development recently when he said the borders might soon be reopened.

His message reads: “In my meeting with State Governors today I explained that the closure of Nigeria’s land borders was partly an attempt to control the smuggling in of weapons & drugs. Now that the message has sunk in with our neighbours, we’re looking into reopening the borders as soon as possible.”
