BREAKING: Five persons killed, houses burnt in another Lagos gas explosion

Five people have been confirmed killed following a gas explosion at Candos Road, Baruwa Inside area of Lagos State.

Six persons were said to have been rescued alive so far but with injuries.

A preliminary assessment of the incident revealed that 44 buildings, one school, one event centre, one church and 89 shops were affected.

Also affected were one tricycle, gas tankers, 23 electricity poles, two transformers and one motorcycle.

The explosion, according to information made available to FrontPage by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, started at about 5.40 a.m. on Thursday when an LPG tanker was in the process of discharging at Best Roof plant station.

It was reported that the explosion occurred in the generator area which was said to be on during the discharge of the tanker’s content.

The explosion was said to have thrown the discharging tanker across the road, causing serious havoc.

It was revealed too that the gas plant had about 30 metric tons of gas in its underground tank.

It was also noted that there was a secondary gas leakage from the underground tank.

The fire is said to have been completely put out and the secondary gas leakage from the underground tank put under control.
