A 21 years old man, Julius Afuape, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for defiling a 13 years old girl (name withheld).
The suspect was arrested following a report made by the aunt at Ayetoro divisional headquarters, Ogun State Police Command spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement.
The victim’s aunt said when she came back from work on September 30, 2020, at about 3:45 p.m., she discovered that her 13 years old niece had been sexually abused by the suspect who lives in the same neighborhood with them.
The victim explained that she was alone in the house when the suspect came at about 1:30 pm and claimed that he was sent by her (the victim’s) aunt to service her generator.
It was based on that excuse that he was allowed to gain entrance into the apartment.
But, on getting inside, he forcefully dragged the victim into her aunt’s bedroom where he had carnal knowledge of her.
After the defilement, the suspect fled.
Upon the report, the Divisional Police officer, Ayetoro Division, Mobolaji Jimoh, directed his detectives to go after him and bring him to justice.
The efforts of the operatives paid off on Friday, October 2, 2020 when the suspect’s hideout was located and he was promptly arrested.
He was said to have made a confessional statement admitting that he actually committed the crime.
The victim was taken to the General Hospital where it was medically confirmed that the victim’s had been deflowered.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has directed that the suspect be transferred to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
