Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has warned Nigerians not to engage in panic buying of petroleum products following the strike embarked upon by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, DAPPMAN, from Monday.
The Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, gave the warning on Sunday.
He said that with the amount of petrol and diesel in stock, the action of the DAPPMAN would not be felt.
According to NNPC, the available 2.6 billion litres of petrol and 90,000 metric tonnes of diesel would last the nation 52 days without having to import any product.
He explained that all NNPC depots across the country and those of bulk purchase marketers it recently entered agreements with would carry out 24-hour operations.
That, he stressed, would prevent fuel scarcity.
His words: “All NNPC depots, Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) throughput partner depots, the Major Marketers depots and depots of Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPMAN) members who signed the Bulk Purchase Agreement, BPA, with PPMC as well as NNPC Retail stations, Major Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) filling stations, will continue to operate at maximum levels to ensure uninterrupted distribution of petroleum products nationwide.”
He restated government’s commitment to paying the N236 billion out of the N348 billion approved by the National Assembly as outstanding subsidy claims on Friday.
He urged the public to report any filling station which might increase the prices of petroleum products to the Departments of Petroleum Resources, DPR.
