The Senate of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has elected a new Acting Vice Chancellor.
She is the Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Development Services, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, and first female to occupy the office in the institution.
Her election followed the directive to that effect by the Federal Government which suspended the Chairman of the institution’s governing council, Dr. Wale Babalakin, and former Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.
Ogunsola defeated her opponent, Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Management Services, Ben Oghojafor, by 135 votes to 31 during the election held on Monday.
Ogunsola is a Professor of Medical Microbiology.
It would be recalled that following the crisis that rocked the removal of Ogundipe as the vice chancellor of UNILAG by the Wale Babalakin-led governing council at an emergency meeting in Abuja, the Federal Government set up a panel to address the bone of contention.
The government ordered the election of a new Acting Vice Chancellor to replace Professor Theophilus Soyombo who was appointed by the governing council after the removal of Ogundipe.
The panel set up by the government was given two weeks to complete its assignment.
