The police have arrested two persons described as fake soldiers in connection with the killing of one Sergeant Onalaja Onajide attached to Ilemba Hausa Division in Lagos State.

The two suspects are 45 years old Kehinde Elijah of Ibiyeye Street, Whitehouse Bus Stop, Okokomaiko, and Ezeh Frank Joseph of Imude Pako Area, Era Road, Ajangbadi.

Elijah was said to be among three suspects on Police wanted list for violent crimes.

Four pairs of military fatigues were said to have been recovered from his house and he was quoted as having said he deserted the military in 2015 when he was deployed to the North East to fight insurgency.

He was said to have since been in Ojo area terrorising members of the public.

The second suspect, Joseph, also claimed to have deserted the military while undergoing basic military training.

The Sergeant, Onajide, was said to have been killed during a shooting incident on May 10, 2020 when some gunmen fired gunshots at him and the Divisional Police Officer, Ilemba Hausa.

While the DPO survived the gunshots, Onalaja, who was the station guard died from pellets wound.

Investigation, the spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, said, led to the arrest of the two.

The first suspect was said to have been at the station earlier to solicit the release of his motorcycle which was impounded by the Police for violating the ban on the use of commercial motorcycles.

Not happy with the DPOs refusal to release the motorcycle to him, he decided to launch the deadly attack that led to the killing of the police officer.

Investigation is said to be ongoing.

The suspects will soon be charged to court, the police said.
