The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has announced bush fire at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Imo State.
In a statement issued by Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN’s spokesperson, officers of Air Rescue and Fire Fighting Services were already battling the fire.
She however said the incident did not affect flight operations.
She seized the opportunity to warn host communities around airports to avoid bush burning.
According to her, it could jeopardise safety of flight operations.
“The Authority will like to appeal to host communities around airports to please desist from burning bushes around the airports as this act is capable of jeopardizing safety of flight operations because of the prevailing weather condition in the country,” she said.
