Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has demoted 75 chiefs promoted to coronet traditional rulers by his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
The elevation of the chiefs was carried out by Amosun towards the end of his tenure and it stirred controversy.
The demotion of the chiefs by Abiodun followed the recommendation of the review committee he set up shortly after he resumed office.
The committee was headed by the Olu of Ilaro and the paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
During its first sitting on Thursday, the State Executive Council ratified the revocation of the appointments of the chiefs as Obas.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Kunle Somorin, the revocation was in consonance with the legal notice number three of 2019.
“The Council approved the revocation of the appointments of 75 chiefs as Coronet Obas in Legal notice number three of 2019,” he said.
