The Deputy National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has called on South West governors to put in place a proper legal framework for the region’s security network, Amotekun.

Oke who is also the Presiding Bishop of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Ibadan, said doing that was imperative in order to avoid the booby traps of antagonists of the initiative .

The cleric, in a release issued by his media office in Ibadan while throwing his weight behind the initiative, lauded the governors for their foresight at ensuring the protection of lives and property of people of the region.

He said, “The Amotekun initiative, is a noble idea and we must commend the proponents being the South West governors. However, it should be properly legalised by making sure Southwest Houses of Assembly, give it the needed legal teeth. This will make nonsense of any primordial sentiment and antagonism.”

Oke allayed the fears being entertained in some quarters concerning the establishment of Amotekun, stating that it was in tandem with the community policing philosophy of the Federal Government.

He maintained that the outfit would complement the efforts of other security agencies in the country to ensure the protection lives and property, urging Nigerians to endeavour to put the country on the path of self-discovery and recovery as well as hold their grounds by making it the way they want to see it work.

Meanwhile, the cleric also commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for working assiduously towards the sustenance of peace across the state, noting that without peace, nothing meaningful could be achieved.
