Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, is to file for a stay of execution of the court verdict which sentenced him to 12 years in jail over involvement in N7.2 billion fraud.
He was convicted along with two others – Jones Ude Udeogo, and a company, Slok Nigeria Limited – by a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday.
Udeogo was the Commissioner for Finance in Abia State when Kalu was the governor.
The plan to get a stay of execution is pending the appeal of the case.
Kalu’s lawyer, Chief Charles Ewelunta, disclosed that the Certified True Copy of the judgement had been obtained and an appeal would be filed.
According to him, apart from application for a stay of execution, a bail application would also be filed.
