After the release of my mother, I can now shift focus to the appeal of the life ban imposed on me by the Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA, former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has declared.
His declaration came hours after the 80-year-old Mrs. Siasia who was kidnapped on July 15 by gunmen in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa state was released on Sunday.
She spent 75 days in captivity.
The Super Eagles legend, while expressing his delight on the development said: “I received a call from my wife this (Sunday) morning that my mom and others have been released. I am grateful to Nigerians for their prayers and to everyone that had a hand directly or indirectly in their release.
“My mom is fine but she has to go for medical checkup. I can now shift focus to the FIFA issue.”
It would be recalled that the world’s football ruling body issued a life ban to the 52-year-old former Nigerian international for breaching the 2009 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics after investigations began on February 11 this year.
According to the statement, “the adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has found Mr. Siasia, a former official of the Nigeria Football Federation, guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”
