Nine members of the cult group, Eiye Confraternity, have been arrested by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command in Imota area of Ikorodu.
Two leaders of the group – Emmanuel Chinonso and Thomas Israel – were initially arrested on Friday following a tip off.
Further investigations led to the arrest of seven others members of cult group.
The revelation was made by the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement.
The statement reads: “On 6th September, 2019 at about 0900hrs Imota Police Station received an information from a reliable source that some cultists on Police wanted list were sighted in Igbalu community.
“Operatives of Operation Crush attached to the division were promptly deployed to the area.
“Two suspects namely, Emmanuel Chinonso ‘m’ 21years old and Thomas Israel ‘m’ 20 years old were arrested.
“Items recovered from them include two battle axe, knife and one beret belonging to Eiye confraternity.
“The suspects confessed that they were key leaders of Eiye Confraternity and that their gang was responsible for series of violent attacks recorded in Imota, Ikorodu.
“In a follow up investigation, seven additional suspects were arrested between 6th and 8th September, 2019. They are: Ariyo Omonuga ‘m’ 25 years old; Oyerinde Omoniyi ‘m’ 23 years old; Adelaja Opeyemi ‘m’ 28years old; Hassan Babatunde ‘m’ 26year old; Sodiq Babatunde ‘m’ 24years old; Sodiq Oladire ‘m’ 22years old and Shakiru Liasu ‘m’ 18years old.
“Investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court.”
